ELY- ASSOCIATION AGAINST the
MISREPRESENTATION of OLIVER CROMWELL
Welcome,
We are of the opinion that Oliver Cromwell has suffered
a great injustice over the last 400 plus years for a simple
man that played a huge part in the triumph of Democracy over
Devine Rule. Without Cromwell who is to say that democracy
wouldn't still be a powerless advisary committee to the all
powerful inherently mad King or Queen and their reckless impulses..!!!

This
is the Canon that Oliver Cromwell fired at the Cathedral and
destroyed the West Wing...
Inside the Cathedral Cromwell decapitated and desecrated the
holy statues...
Cromwell slaughtered innocent Irish men, women & children
for no good reason...
abolished Christmas...
and imposed a complete ban on "fun"...
POPPYCOCK..!
All these
stories are inaccurate exaggerations and falsities put about
by Centuries of successive Royalist Regimes and spread by
a people that are still suffering from "guilt" for
the "cold blooded murder" of the King, Charles the
1st.
We are the Ely Association against the
misrepresentation of Oliver Cromwell -
Hussar..!
Contrary to popular belief, Cromwell was a good Husband AND
Father...
An enthusiastic Member of Parliament...
a Military Genius...
and Uncrowned King of Great Britain and the Commonwealth...
The story of the man who rose from Commoner
to King is surprisingly mundane, but the true Legacy of Oliver
Cromwell is Democracy itself.
You see, up until that period of time, the King, or Queen
was all powerful and their word alone was the ultimate Law.
They would make sometimes impulsive decisions that would affect
the whole country.
The Church reinforced the link from God to the Monarch and
thus preserved the Divine Right of the King to Absolute Rule.
However, for many years the Lords and Landowners wanted a
voice in the running of the Country by means of an elected
body of "Commoners", a democratic system whereby
the people of England would have some sort of say.
Democracy itself was not a new idea. The Greeks had a democracy
before time existed.
Democracy and a Parliament in England also had been around
since Simon DeMontfort called the first Parliament in 1265
although it never had any power as such and it's only function
was to advise and support the Crown.
In the early 1600's the issue of the time was effective power-sharing
between the People, and the Monarchy, an ideal that eventually
lead to the English Civil War and the Murder of King Charles
1st.
Without Cromwell's idealism, courage and determination,
democracy may never have triumphed over divine rule.
So, whatever your feelings about Oliver Cromwell...
even though they may be based on hearsay and ignorance...
the one thing that cannot be denied is that he settled the
argument once and for all...
and because of the actions taken ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF
THE COUNTRY, Parliament was now a true force in great Britain's
Affairs and the workings of "civilisations" around
the world would never be the same again - thanks to the one
and only, Oliver Cromwell
Hussar..!
